performative piece

_____________

Talks about women as a series of processes, not as neat and static finished pieces, but as a matter full of infinite possibilities to stand up any way it pleases. A resilient clay that can be broken down and rebuilt, making it visible that we are contained, not just a container.

Oaxaca, Mexico

_____________

This pieces made with clay Donají or mud "Oaxaca" is an exploration of what a home means. A space to grow and feel safe. A hole where you can lose yourself in yourself.

“When I moved to Oaxaca, I left my "nest" to venture and try to create and look for what I would call my new home, weaving my own nest.”

To try to create a new residence is to drag your roots from one place to another, trying not to cut them. Making sure they do not dry out and can bloom. Muddling them delicately for fear of using the nutrients of that new place. Not wanting to forget what you were, but without realizing that there are already stems of this new location wrapping and cured.

Wounds that let me understand you. Wounds that I see as a treasure because they shaped who you are. I look through your wounds and find brilliant gold. Do not cover them, let me see them.

MILAGRITOS

2018

Milagrito/ roots/glass

_____________

This piece talks about how I ask (within what I believe), the "healing energy"to my "mother earth" to help me with my leg. To heal me from the clot and my soul. It is my way of also being thankful that I could keep my limb and my life. It is an offering, it is an altar. It is my way of expressing love back to life.

EMBRACEII

2018

Plant/ brass

_____________

Talks about how we should surround ourselves with nature and let ourselves be embraced by it. Together we are One. We are not something different or alien to it. It is not inferior, nor is it superior. We are together as we should face life.Nature tries to protect us and reconquer what men has destroyed. Taking back her "land." The mother looking for her children to take them home. This sweet embrace happened through a process. In which I left this beautiful medicinal plant "doradilla" wither around a ring that I used to highlight and circulate its beauty. We must let ourselves be healed, let our mother wrap us in her arms and comfort us. A mother who "indulges" for us. It is a reflection that separately we are perfect, but together we are sublime.

EMBRACE

2018

Plant/wood/ brass

_____________

Let’s talk about life and death. Let’s talk about cycles and how we cling to our existence. How we let ourselves be surrounded by the arms of life. Let what surrounds you be part of you. Get conquered by life itself and make a home out of Gaia. She knows very well your secret, she knows you will come back to her. She is ready to hold you in an embrace and make you feel safe. The process of the Doradilla (plant) embracing a circular piece produced by menas it withers, holding it in a sweet embrace.

BIRTHDAY

2017

wood/ brass

_____________

I found this piece of wood laying on the beach while walking with my mom on my birthday. It caught my eye its beautiful form, an unfinished circle craving to be completed. The second I had it in my hands, I couldn't stop thinking how I wanted to complete this wooden ring. It was already perfect, but I wanted to close the circle, I wanted to exalt its existence. I wanted to be the creator of it. I wanted to take credit of this masterpiece. I decided to seal the circle with brass, so the human touch could be notable. I wanted to reconnect and take over nature at the same time that nature was taking over me.

HOME

2017

hay / plastic circle

_____________

We have to be mud again. We have to lie down again on the grass and feel how it embraces us and takes our form. Return to the life's circular womb. Enter the burrow that is our cure to loneliness. Mother earth wants us to reconnect with her. Let yourself succumb to this maternal power and be part of it, go back to your roots. Be mud again, let the minerals be your skin and the hay your hair. Go back home, we can not wait to die to be able to return to earth. We have to do this while we are alive. Go back where you came from.

CONFINE

2017

flowers/ brass

_____________

My new piece deals with the issue of containing life, which layers contain and draw a border to what has life. What is the line that separates the "envelope" from the living and dead? Or Is there really nothing that separates them? Is there a limit to what is considered alive?

ARRULLO DE NUBES

2017

ceramic

_____________

This work was inspired by how volatile the flowers are, like clouds. A piece that does not compete but exalts the flowers. It is a cradle for nature, finding its perfect balance when interacting with nature. An enameled moon that shares the sky with the clouds. Organic work that with feminine curves like the delicate flowers that pretends to nourish and to lull.

CONFORTAR

_____________

This piece is a poem about

flowers. It is specifically for

flowers that tend to bend

their necks, it gives them

support to resist the weight

of their own existence.

It is a sculpture that

accompanies the flower

through its life, it comforts

nature on their dying days.

LA FEMME

2017

wood

_____________

The female body has always been connected with the eternal greatness of the earth. We felt nostalgia to return to being part of the logs, of the sand, of when we were mud. We miss being part of the earth again. Believing in the divinity of Mother Earth, who is also our mother. Within nature, femininity can be found in different forms and subjects. The connection of the woman with the earth is shown in this piece taking the shape of a female.

CONTAINED

_____________

We are always limited by

something, even our bodies.

Why can't we take the form

we want? how is life

contained in a piece of

skin?

_____________

So many things contain us

air, skin, thoughts,

feelings...

Are this layers part of us?

Is our own skin just a layer

more ? where do we

containing who we are?
